We started Homestead Ecofarm® through our passion for nature, animals, sewing and fiber art, farming and the goal to live in a more simplistic and healthy way that brings us closer to the earth and things we love. We love homesteading and focusing on back to basics living and self-sufficiency and our farm and business grew from these passions. We strive to use agriculture practices that are free from chemicals and pesticides, non-GMO, and organic when possible, resulting in the healthiest food possible while improving the soil and land. We do not use pesticides - not on our animals, plants, or in our apiary. Instead, we focus on healthy soil and natural pest management practices. We believe in preserving heritage livestock breeds and raise Registered Romeldale/CVM sheep, as well as Finnsheep, Harlequin Sheep, and Icelandic Sheep. We also raise registered Heritage Berkshire hogs, Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf Goats, poultry, Heritage Royal Palm , Bourbon Red, Slates and ducks. We also participate in the Livestock Conservancy Shave Em to Save Em (SE2SE) Program.
We strongly believe in the Fibershed Movement, and the soil to soil philosophy of clothing and textile use. In everything we do on the Ecofarm, we try to encourage sustainability, conservation, zero-waste, and consideration of our earths valuable resources. We embrace natural medicine, foraging, and wildcrafting and believe nature provides everything we need to survive, thrive and be happy. We believe that our food, energy, clothing, medicine and daily needs should be sourced locally from farmers and tradespeople from renewable and sustainable resources, thus reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible. Our homestead, products and our blog reflects these values and we hope to share them with you.
We offer a variety of handmade gifts and items from products grown 100% on our ecofarm including wool, honey, beeswax, herbs, beauty items and more.
We offer a variety of wildcrafted herbs, nuts and mushrooms, always sustainably and responsibly harvested from chemical free, undisturbed areas.
In everything we do we try to promote zero-waste, sustainable, environmentally friendly practices including upcycling and reuseability and eliminating single use products and plastic. You will see many upcycled and salvaged items in our artwork.
We are committed to zero chemical use on our ecofarm including being pesticide and synthetic fertilizer free. We avoid GMO's and use heirloom plants whenever possible.
We are committed to humane treatment of our animals and follow Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) Guidelines for the treatment of all of our animals. Every animal is cage free, has continuous access to the outdoors, and are allowed to behave naturally. We allow our animals the opportunity to perform natural and instinctive behaviors essential to their health and well-being. We have specifically chosen breeds for our Ecofarm considering their ability to thrive in the prevailing climatic conditions of the farm, in pasture-based, free range, outdoor systems.
